Renewals

Q: Does the Board keep track of continuing education hours I accumulate during my two year renewal period?

No. Individuals are responsible to keep track off and maintain records of their continuing education hours. These hours are then sent along with their renewal application every two years.

Q: Will I receive a new license for framing and ID card every time I renew?

No. You are issued a license for framing when you are initially granted the license. This document lists an effective date but does not have an expiration date on it and therefore does not need to be replaced every two years. You are issued an ID card when you are initially granted the license and then receive a new ID card every time you renew. The ID card identifies the license's effective date and expiration date. It is recommended that you make a copy of the ID card to give to your employer each time you renew and to place with your framed license.

Q: Does the Board send renewal material to individuals prior to their lapse date?

The Board sends a courtesy postcard reminding individuals of their upcoming renewal approximately 90 days in advance. This postcard directs the individual to the Board website to download renewal material. If individuals cannot download the renewal material they can contact the office and ask that renewal material be mailed to them.

Q: If I never receive notification from the Board that I am due for renewal am I granted an extension on submitting my renewal?

No. It is the individual's responsibility to be aware of their renewal date and comply with renewal requirements in a timely fashion. It is also an individual's responsibility to update the Board when their address changes. If an individual does not receive this notice it is their responsibility to check their address with the board and obtain the renewal material.

Q: Why am I required to send my renewal in 30 days before my lapse date?

This allows the Board adequate time to review and approve your renewal before your license expires. The Board guarantees that applications will be reviewed within 30 days of receipt. Individuals who send their renewal application to the board with less than 30 days until their lapse run the risk of not receiving approval prior to their lapse date. An individual whose license lapses is not able to practice until that renewal application is approved. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. There are no extension or rush through policies.

Q: How am I notified of review/approval of my renewal application?

If you listed an email address on your renewal application and indicated you wished to be notified in this fashion an email is sent to you once review of your application is complete. Your application will be reviewed within 30 days of receipt. If your email account has a junk mail folder it is recommended that you check this folder occasionally as many email filters identify emails from the Board as junk mail.

License Verification

Q: Can I verify a license online?

No. Our Board has yet to be added to the statewide database system that allows for online verification. Our staff can verify licenses via telephone, fax, email or mail. Requests for verification of five or more licenses should be submitted via one of the written formats (fax, email or mail). Smaller requests may be handled over the telephone or through written format.

Grandparenting

Q: Can I grandparent into a license?

No. The Board's grandparenting period ended in June of 2007. All individuals interested in obtaining a license with the Board must go through the application and testing process.
